Masterclass Information
Bach & A Baroque Frame of Mind
7 pm Thursday, December 10, 2020
Interactive Masterclass (Zoom)
Sarah Darling
What can we discover from the past to make our performances livelier now? To put Bach into context, we’ll nerd out about the equipment and documents of the time, including the practice of ornamentation and the role baroque and classical bows play in shaping a phrase. We'll also explore the ideas of “translating history” and "rhetorical playing,” and perhaps even examine what baroque composers might have had for lunch. Bring curiosity and an instrument!
Participation
This masterclass is open to all prospective students. We are seeking
string players
who wish to perform, as well as active participants/observers from all instruments and genres.
